Current Goals:
- An elevator to her bedroom and playroom on the second floor will probably be needed as she grows (and gets heavier)
- A generator is likely in the future too, Sophie's neurological condition impairs her ability to adjust to heat or cold. Sophie's medical supplies also need refrigeration.
Past Successes:
- Her wheel chair lift to get her in and out of the house (she still needs her wheel chair to get around)
- A ramp for the family van (her new wheelchair is too heavy to lift in and out of the van)
- The three trips to the Institute for training for her parents and her volunteers
- The upcoming "Outreach" for her program
- A "touch screen" for our PC so that Sophie can play and learn on the computer
- Renovations that transformed a bedroom into a special "playroom" for her program
.....and Today!
- Weekly family counseling
- Physical Therapy twice per week
- Occupational Therapy twice per week
- Medical deductible, co-pays and non-covered expenses (she will incur all of these costs for the foreseeable future)
- Special toys and supplies (e.g., sports glasses to prevent her from scratching her eyes; padding to make her surroundings safer for her, etc.)
- This Website and the "Sophie News", her newsletter to help us inform her many friends, helpers and admirers of her progress and many adventures
- Advertising for volunteers
- Diapers, bottle liners, eyewash, first aid supplies, batteries for her IV pump and various other devices, and a million other little things that we have tried to see if this or that might help
People frequently ask us, "How do you do it?". The answer is simple, we can only do it with a lot of help.
Someone told us, "Almost nothing important gets done single-handedly; everybody gets some help from time to time. The gracious people just seem to remember it better."
Thank you.
