What is Sophie's Son-Rise Program?

This program was designed by sophies parents and the Son-Rise staff at the Option Institute and Fellowship of Sheffield, Massachusetts. Following the teaching and philosophy of the Option Institute, the Prunty's have developed an individualized, child-centered, home-based, parent directed program.

The program consists of working and playing with Sophie in a specially designed playroom. Volunteers work one-on-one with her weekly to develop living and social skills. This work is based on a totally non-judgemental attitude and philosophy of love and acceptance, while never demanding from or moving against the child. The method is not a set technique or prescribed set of rules to be applied, but based on being open to looking at creative ways to help Sophie.

The Son-Rise program the Prunty's run is part-time and gives volunteers the opportunity to learn how to be more efffective in the playroom through "dialogue" sessions with her parents, and share ideas and set goals at monthly team meetings. The skills learned can be carried over to other areas of thier lives.
